Waders Carved from yellow pine then weathered. Most of the early shorebird decoys did not look like a particular bird- just birdlike. Many were just flat wood shapes and the hunter would often tack wings from dead birds to the decoy to improve the look. The "Waders" are not exactly flat decoys. They are shaped but the body is not as full as some of the other decoys. Like the "Primitive Egrets" shown below much of their appeal is in their simplicity
